Transit of goods via Iran rises 21% in 8 months

TEHRAN- Transit of goods via Iran rose 21 percent during the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-November 21) compared to the same period of time in the past year, according to a transport official.

Reza Nafisi, director general of Transit and International Transportation Department in Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization, said over 6.053 million tons of commodities have been transited via Iran’s sea and land borders during the mentioned time, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

Of the mentioned figure, above 1.77 million tons were oil products and more than 4.28 million tons were non-oil goods, he added.

In the said time span, Shahid Rajaee Port in the south of country, being a gateway for transit of over 2.19 million tons of goods i.e. 36.2 percent of the total transited goods, was the crowded border of Iran, Nafisi announced.

According to him, the largest number of trucks carrying the transited goods via Iran in this period came from Iraq heading to the United Arab Emirates.
